Get Excited About Your Plan

I remember several years ago being invited to meet with Fred Smith in his home. Fred was a celebrity, and I was elated to get such an opportunity. He wasn't just a best-selling author and internationally known business person, but a mentor to business executives like Zig Ziglar, John Maxwell, and Chuck Colson. Zig...

It’s In The Story

When asked to describe our product or service and why we are different from our competitors it's easy to shift to sales mode and start by listing features and benefits. "We are innovative thinkers." "We do marketing differently." "Our team is superior." "We care." The best brands don't lead with features and benefits; they engage by sharing the love...

Invent the Possible Paths

Built in 1906, this was the first building dedicated to the manufacturing of Dr Pepper. You can check it out here.  "Not only is a man not...

Tom whom I've never met, said, "Jeff, I like your website. I also enjoyed learning about you from your About page." This type of interaction happens to me at least once a week. It's the kind of interaction that begins a good conversation and starts building trust. The purpose of your story and every piece of...

Your Adventure Starts Here

A local dry cleaner spends thousands of dollars each month just to get attention and be found. I see his advertisements online and in my junk mail often. Once I get to his website, there's nothing there. There's no story. Nothing that makes me feel he stands out. There is nothing that engages me. It's just noise. So I...

What Strategy Are You Working On?

Several years ago while attending student orientation at Baylor University with our son Ryan, we observed a bike rack with a lock that secured only a wheel. The wheel was safe, but the bike was missing. I wondered at the time what reaction the owner of the bike had when he realized his bike...

The Best Marketing Shortcut

Photo courtesy of Jeff Payne: I can assure you there is no shortcut getting to the very inside tip of this Texas landmark. Winding narrow staircases, hidden paths and doors lead to the most spectacular view atop the Texas State Capitol overlooking beautiful Austin, Texas. Thanks to a special friend arranging this not-for-public and...

Remember When You Were Broke?

Remember when you were broke, what it took to gain traction in your business? The big leaps forward, doubt storms, faith, sweat, hustle, focus, borrowing to make payroll, and taking chances. Along the way, there is some failure, but you do what you have to, you pivot and recover. Failure is not a badge of...

Jeff Payne Company

My name is Jeff

I am a creative, a designer, a writer, an entrepreneur, and humanitarian. When you reach 50, they call it half-time. That’s where I am at. The first 50 years were almost a blur and the years went by so quickly. I have many fond and some not so fond memories of my first 50 that include successes and failures, eureka moments and valleys, joy and sadness, love and hurt. Along the way I’ve made some wonderful lifelong friends. My second half journey will be more intentional with the time I have left on earth. I plan to apply the skills and talents I’ve learned and am continuing to learn, to projects that matter most to me and in some way help change the world. Here I will share my journey — this will help me keep it vivid by having it in writing. I also hope it provides a spark to your own journey. If this sounds interesting to you, my hope is that you will follow along with me by subscribing here.

About

My name is Jeff Payne. I was born on December 27th, 1960, near Chicago. That makes me 54 years old, but please don’t tell anyone. I have a full head of hair but it has begun to turn grey. I’m a husband, a dad, a son, an in-law, a friend, a coach, a marketer, and a writer.

I find myself hopelessly addicted to marketing, branding, web design, writing, and reading. Other things I am addicted to are watching the Dallas Mavericks, and pressing the repeat button on my Shane and Shane video and song each night as I work or read.

Last, but certainly not least, I confess very boldly that I am a Christian. And from time to time, I may write about things that reflect on my values and walk with Christ. I am not perfect which is precisely the reason I need Jesus Christ in my life. My desire in life is to live an abundant life in honor of Jesus Christ. My deepest desire is to trust Him, to deny myself and to pick up my cross and follow Him. I still fail at it, but I’m grateful that His mercies are new every morning.

I have been blessed with a beautiful and most amazing wife named Robin, and an incredibly wonderful son named Ryan. Ryan is a graduate of Baylor University and has started his own marketing company in Austin. Ryan makes his mom and dad proud with the way he lives his life.

Life is good. I have great friends, teammates, and customers that make my journey in life that much more meaningful. I have the opportunity to touch lives that makes my journey priceless. I invest my time as a business and marketing consultant to my wonderful customers around the world.  I’m also a marketing coach, a mentor and a friend. When possible you can catch me at a Dallas Mavericks game, biking, and I plan on doing more scuba diving this summer. I am blessed.
