Success is not just an achievement of some data point that you hit on a sales chart. Success is how your customers feel.
A few weeks ago we lost Missy our cat of 10 years. Missy became part of our family the day we picked her up from the side of a road while traveling during the Christmas holiday. It was a bitter cold and snowy day in South Dakota and she was happy to get into our SUV.
Missy was diagnosed with diabetes 4 years ago. Our vet made us aware that we could manage the diabetes but eventually she would succumb to the disease. The thing I will remember most about Missy was her bravery. She required 2 insulin shots a day for 4 years, right up until the last few days of her life. She never ran to hide to avoid getting her insulin shot. Sometimes she would flinch, but most of the time she stood stoic as we administered her shots.
We knew Missy was dying and that it was coming soon, but even as I write this it still hurts. Our family loved and misses her.
A week or so ago we received a card in the mail from our vet. It was personal and heartfelt. The card and envelope were handcrafted. The message inside the card was handwritten and said, “We are very sorry for your loss. We hope your memories of Missy help heal your hearts.”
Castlerock Pet Hospital in Georgetown, Texas, just outside of Austin is our vet forever.
Success truly is how your customers feel.
