Just today a sample of messages from my inbox looked like this:
“24 Hours Left to Save 30%”
“You should see this”
“Learn something new”
“Super savings for one more day!”
“Last chance to sign up”
“Please email me or call me”
“One more thing”
“VIP: Save 50% on…”
“Full price? Nah.”
Traditional advertising is focused on selling hard, using worn out marketing tactics, clever subject lines and manipulation that only results in alienating the people we claim we are wanting to reach.
The best marketing begins with a story, when we practice empathy and place ourselves in another’s shoes. It’s when we understand the feelings, thoughts, and perspective of the people we say we want to help. This is when we discover new and better marketing opportunities.
So how does your marketing make me feel?
